We offer a Comp Team for those interested in taking competition more seriously. Just looking to compete and have fun? The tournaments we're attending are listed below — we recommend training 4× per week for at least the month before you compete. Either way, we coach at events and help you get ready for the big day.
We're a no-gi academy, so we compete at no-gi events — ones that give the team real reps, real pressure, and a format that rewards complete grappling. Sign-up sheets are posted in the gym. When an event's sheet is up, it's marked below — put your name on the sheet at the gym to compete.
Events update as the calendar fills in. Signed up but not sure you're on the roster? Tell a coach.
We build truly skilled athletes through live problem solving and competing often — and that starts before the team does. The room and the program do the work: every class here already trains you like a competitor.
The Comp Team is the layer on top. No separate practices — the week you're already training gets pointed at competition:
The perks come with the jersey. The work is done in the room.
Nobody talks their way onto either roster — you work your way on. Each team has a weekly standard, and holding it is what makes you a member.
For athletes building a real competition habit close to home — Grappling Industries and the rest of the Michigan calendar, with the team in your corner.
For athletes chasing the big stages — ADCC Opens, IBJJF Pans, UFC BJJ Opens, and wherever the calendar takes us.
Mat hours are met in regular classes — there are no separate team practices; the room does the work. Strength & Mobility can be done at the gym or at home — we may ask for video now and then to keep it honest.
The team is open to any age and any skill level — but it's applied for, not signed up for. You do the work first, and the work earns you a decision, not a jersey. Text us to start.
Tell us about your training and which team you're aiming for — Local or National. Coaches read every application individually; one detailed message works best.
Live your team's weekly standard for a full month — mat hours, Strength & Mobility, all of it — and compete at least once inside that month. How you handle the pressure of competing tells us as much as the hours do.
The month earns a decision, not an automatic spot. If you're on, the same standards — the weekly work and regular competition — are what keep you on.

What we look for — the standard is the same at every age and level:
Athlete bios are on the way — who's on the roster, what they've done, and what they're chasing next. This is where you'll follow the team.
Bios Coming SoonSame rule as everything on this page: prove it first. These exist for athletes already living the standard — never as a reason to start.
Sponsorship is earned, not given — and spots are even more limited than the team itself. For athletes who show uncommon commitment and long-term potential, we can help carry the cost of competing.
In nearly every case this means joining the team first and earning it over time — through consistency, character, and alignment with our standards. Joining the team is the path to sponsorship, never a guarantee of it. We just believe finances shouldn't be the reason a dedicated athlete can't chase their goals.
For athletes who want to build their life around training and competition, a limited full-time pathway is available — for people ready to commit deeply to the sport.
Selective, and built for those after something bigger than occasional competition. Mention sponsorship or full-time interest when you apply.
Limited space. Serious athletes only — any age, any level. Apply and find out if it's the right fit.
